Factory Reset Your Device
Disable Find My
Find My must be disabled before resetting a device in order to avoid iCloud Activation Lock*.
- Open Settings
- Tap [Your Name]
- Tap Find My
- Tap Find My [Device]
- Disable Find My [Device]
* iCloud Activation Lock is a security feature to protect a device from being usable if ever stolen.
Erase All Content & Reset All Settings
- Open Settings
- Tap General
- Scroll down to Transfer or Reset [Device]. (Reset on older iOS versions)
- Tap Erase All Content and Settings
- Follow the on-screen steps to factory reset your device.
Please note that you cannot undo this action without a device backup. Learn how to backup your device here
Other Reset Options
In the Transfer or Reset [Device] menu, you may have noticed there are multiple options to reset various settings on your device. Find the following options in Settings > General > Transfer or Reset [Device] > Reset.
- Reset All Settings resets all settings to default factory configurations.
- Reset Network Settings erases all saved Wi-Fi networks, VPN configurations, and bluetooth devices. The device name is also reverted back to it's original name.
- Delete All eSIMs erases all saved eSIM profiles on the device.
- Subscriber Services erases and resets the cellular plan on an iPad.
- Reset Keyboard Dictionary erases all saved text replacements and learned typing behaviors.
- Reset Handwriting Style resets the custom handwriting preferences to their original configurations.
- Reset Home Screen Layout resets the layout of the Home Screen apps and widgets layout.
- Reset Location & Privacy resets the location services and privacy settings to their defaut configuration.
